Peek of the Week - July 6, 2012

What's Peek of the Week you ask? It's our semi-regular Friday feature where we hear all about what cool things you other crafty families and blogging types have been up to. Tell us about your projects, finished or in-progress, a funny kid moment, a personal accomplishment or just something that made you smile.

Each week I'll get the ball rolling by sharing a Peek from our week and then invite you to do the same by linking up to your own post.

Today's Peek: Stop. Motion.

I did a few projects this week and I decided to record the process. See?
This little project has helped with my recent desire to restructure our days. Since we got back from our N.C. trip ideas have been flying through my head. Things I want to do with the kiddos, things I want to do myself and ways I want to structure our days and weeks. And I wanted a visual way to organize all that. So, I made the new calendar and put it in grand central station - our kitchen.

But being me - I couldn't just throw a whiteboard up there. I had to make it pretty.
A few things I mustache you to do? I mean come on.
I love that I did not spend a dollar to do this project. I already had a white board and all these sheets of vinyl decal material laying around. And I love that I finished it in less than a day. Can't tarry around here. Gotta make time.

And thennnnnnnnn,
I wanted to spruce up our very very ugly door for summer. I had a spring wreath on there with a background that said, "Spring has sprung. Breathe Deep." But it's 107 degrees outside. Spring has long since sprung.
Fun! Fabric scraps, modpodge, and a few canvasses and viola. This one took one whole naptime and that was it - and without taking a photo between every scrap you could get it done licketysplit.

What are you doing for summer? Do share...
You could get peeking in three easy steps:
1. Blog about your Peek of the Week - whatever it is. Whatever happened that made you proud, laugh, smile, inspired, excited, or just plain happy - now that's worth sharing.
2. Include a link to this blog or put the Peek of the Week button (on the sidebar) in your post.
3. Link your blog post using the InLinkz button below.

If you don't get a chance to get here on Friday, feel free to link your post up later.
The InLinkz button will be active for 5 days.

Photo Take Over

I got it in my mind to do a photo collage on our living room wall.

I went through all the framed photos I had on hand, and lo and behold, my beloved second born was criminally underrepresented.

Criminally.

So, I scoured my photo files. There were way too many good ones, what with the adorable children and the new fancy camera.

So, 90 prints of various sizes,

coupla hundred bucks in new frames,

and about a blue million little metal frame tabs later...

Too much?

A Taste of Tree Trimming

We are quite tardy.

Normally if my tree is not cut and standing in my home by dark the day after Thanksgiving, something strange is amiss.

This year we're late. We're still on our Thanksgiving travels. And some changes are afoot once we get home, so tree procurement dates are still a bit fuzzy.

Luckily, however, we got to have a little taste of tree trimming at Gram's house.

Apparently we are rationing clothing around here. Only one item per child at a time.

For both my babies' 1st Christmases I made clay ornaments of their little feet and hands.

My how those feet have grown.

I am itchin' to get my halls decked...but that'll have to wait for now.

Happily Home Sliced?

I've been up to something a little different lately. It was a special request from our dear dear friends Natalie and Debra. They recently welcomed sweet Lucas into the world and have made him the. most. beautiful. nursery. ever.

Debra is a keen designer and their house is always beautiful and warm, but when I walked into Lucas' room - I wanted to live there. Move over baby. This is my crib.

(I should have scanned these to do them justice. But I'm lazy).

So they asked me to make some wall decals to go on his blank azul colored wall. We talked about it for a while, and inspired by the decor in Snooze (a breakfast joint in Denver - go there, the food is unreal!), I got excited about doing jacks. They were totally into it - and here's what I cooked up:

Here they are sloppily taped up on my boring white wall. Pretty fun! I know Debra will place them just perfectly and I can't wait to see how they spruce up Lucas' super fly room!

Congratulations Mamas and welcome sweet Lucas to a beautiful loving family!

Happy Feet

Good news! I found Boogie's feet.
And his sweet little hands.

Inspiration wall complete!

Sensing a theme?

It's sleep. Apparently I have sleep on the brain.
It's clearly because we're not getting much.

The room sharing extravaganza is going slightly better since yesterday's post-mayhem post. The night went beautifully, although we did have to rescue Boogie from a crib full of detritus this morning.

Now we pepper Eli with the same question every 7 minutes. It goes like this:

"Eli, what are you not going to do anymore?" (He knows it so well he needs no more prompting then that).

"I'm not going to put stuff in Amos' crib (pause) any moah."

We'll see.

And now, file this one in the "Poor Boogie" file.
Remember Eli's nursery?

Here's Amos' "nursery."

Poor Boogie. Boogie got a nook. A corner really.

But unlike the elder boy child, Amos' nook was handcrafted with love by him Mama.

It started with the birdies.
A birdie mobile for Amos.
Then, there was the search for the perfect fabrics with which to craft his little bedding. Kitty Robin liked them.

And I whipped up the sweetest little froggy and birds baby bedding. From. Scratch.

I used Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones which was very simple and turned out delightfully.

So, sorry Boggie. No sconce for you. No ambiance. No spiny sea urchin paint.

Just a tiny nook and some good old fashioned homesewn love.

Eli's Nursery

Just for fun (and because my computer is recently healed enough to download photos from old computer back up disks), I thought I'd give you a peek at Eli's super sweet nursery!

When we moved to Colorado in 2007 (8 months preggo with Eli) we bought a hovel and gave it some love. My favorite part was creating a sweet little space for our soon-to-arrive first born.Fabulous modular flooring in brown and green was the starting point. Then Super Selena painted the room "Spiny Sea Urchin!" I absolutely loved this color!

And I added some trees.
And some fun lighting (thanks Ikea!).

Ahhh, baby ambiance.

And Super Selena made the beautiful bedding and window treatments. She's AMAZING! That little brown bear was the fella's from his childhood. Coincidentally - it's name: Jess.

And viola! Kitty Wendell approved. Eli was only in it for a bit, because very shortly we sold the hovel and moved into the mountain house. Alas. But painting the trees and little blue birds for our wee one helped calm the fears of becoming a mom in a completely new place.
