Fall is here.

 Hazel is wearing a capelet.
Staple of fall fashion.
That's all.

1st Harvest

Eric read a study as he was preparing for Sunday's sermon that said the average family spends 49 minutes together a day.

Yesterday we spent that and then some harvesting pumpkins.

We are either preparing to welcome fall like, today, or jinxing it's arrival. It's our version of groundhog day. If fall sees a pumpkin before it's ready does that mean we'll have 6 more weeks of summer? Because...no.  Too hot.

See, Yaya has created the most beautiful and fruitful pumpkin patch in the back yard and those little beauties oranged up a few days ago and are just taunting us! We picked one a week or so ago and already carved it. Too soon?

Amos is the only kid who would look at the camera, bless him. He was enthused as you can tell.

Then a stroke of genius...
There we all were with a spare Yaya to take over the camera...

Family Photo Shoot!

Fall is my favorite and pumpkins are my favorite and they...those kids up there and that fella...

they're my favorite.

And this too:
 Ermagerd. Hervy.

Out Takes

Today I took my boy children out into the hot sun to model winter pajamas that are probably more for girls. Bad call? Perhaps. But look at the fun we had!

Ok that one's pretty great.

Now onto the lounge pants. My faves.

Hazel decided we were done. Bless her.
She cheered up pretty quick.

Don't be fooled. Temperatures are cooling and fall will be here soon. Then winter will come and Christmas and you won't be sad your littles are flannel clad. I'm sure of it.

Early Birds

This little pumpkin has been calling to Eli.

It is the first to be plucked from the patch in Yaya's garden. There are about a dozen still brewing there. But this little guy has been calling to him.

So today, he answered.

We found an angry birds template and tool set at target and lo and behold, nearly 5 year old Eli is big enough, dextrous enough and doggone it, he wants to carve his own.

Holy big kid batman.
So proud.

Blowing raspberries to extinguish the candle = Hilarious.

Hazel was a bit flummoxed by the whole proposition.

Yes. I know the date. September 16. This pumpkin will be long since rotted before the leaves start to fall. But there's a patch full out back and in the support of excitement, I let Eli follow his carving calling.

And I roasted the first batch of pumpkin seeds. To a crisp! Doh.
Noooooooo!

Welcome Fall

We're getting excited about welcoming fall around here.

It's by no means here yet. But it's coming.

Fall means layers and pumpkins (pumpkins!) and hot chocolate and leaves.

In the sewing room and in my shop it means cords. Some new ones...

(Like those? Limited quantities available. Here they are in the shop.)

And some oldies...
That shot of Eli will just never get old. And those cords are now onto to Amos and in their 4th season and going strong. They're available in my shop in lots of color combinations so get creative!

Know what else fall means? That's right. The Welcome Fall Sale for Facebook Friends. In the 1st day of the push to double facebook fans of Happily Home Sewn we're a quarter of the way there! Woot!

The first Giveaway has been given away and the second one is close. It's a two-fer because Fan number 265 and the person who recommended us to them ((ahem, tell your friends!) will get a special coupon code for 50% off anything in the shop! Could be you!

Like Happily Home Sewn on Facebook and even if you don't win one of the giveaways you will get 20% off your entire purchase in the shop with the coupon code NEWFBFRIEND. Win. Win.

Peek of the Week - September 30, 2011

What's Peek of the Week, you ask? It's our Friday feature and it's all about you! I want to hear (and share with my readers) what wowed you this week. It could be a cool finished project, a work in progress, a personal accomplishment, a cute kid moment, or something that surprised you.

If we could peek into your week - what would you want to show us?

Each week I'll share my own Peek of the Week to get the ball rolling, and invite you to link to your blog post about your Peek of the Week. I know y'all are up to cool stuff - we wanna see it!

It's been a while since my Peek of the Week has featured any new projects. It's been all kids being born and kids doing cute stuff and videos from cute stuff past. Which is all good stuff, don't get me wrong, but I do love a good reveal.

We've been doing lots of fall crafting around here lately. Eli chose his own crafty supplies at Michael's and had a project in mind. He went right to work on it when we got home.
I did the same.

Aside - one of the hardest parts of motherhood for me is when I get a crafty project itch and I want to just dive in head first. I miss being able to devote myself entirely to the project without regard for meals or time, or you know...attending to the people I made and keeping them alive.

So when I got home from Michael's I did little bits of my project in fits and starts until everyone was asleep so I could get down to business. And I finished it!
See it?

Aside: The boys love raking leaves. It was a good three hours of entertainment today.

It's the wreath! I made the shiniest, blingiest, glitteriest wreath on God's green earth and it is fantastic. And...it's square. I really had my heart set on a square wreath, which was not available at Michaels', so I bought a sheet of floral foam and made it myself. Take that Michael's.

And I love it.

I know it's nothing big. But it's a crafty project finished and that's kinda huge.

Ok, now you!
You could get peeking in three easy steps:
1. Blog about your Peek of the Week - whatever it is. Whatever happened that made you proud, laugh, smile, inspired, excited, or just plain happy - now that's worth sharing.
2. Include a link to this blog or put the Peek of the Week button (on the sidebar) in your post.
3. Link your blog post using the InLinkz button below.

If you don't get a chance to get here on Friday, feel free to link your post up later.
The InLinkz button will be active for 5 days.

Reunited and it feels so good.

My weekend at Sunny's was sooooo lovely and I took full advantage of all that lounge time. I relished not being needed. I savored not changing diapers or wiping noses.

But I missed them something fierce. There is nothing better than rising up the escalators from the terminal train and seeing Dizzy's sweet smile and arms full of flowers saying, "Hi Mommy! You came back!"

Yum. Me.

So I've been eating up some boy time since I got back.

Poor Baby A. He was sick and pitiful while I was gone. He's made it clear I should never go again. He's still a little puny, but hopefully on the mend.

Absence has made our hearts even fonder. Imagine that.
