Embrace the Embarrassment

I don't know how this happened. I take no responsibility for this embarrassing scene.

Except that I sewed our little frocks and dressed us both that day.

So, a little responsibility.
My intention was to just step out into the yard and have the fella snap a few shots...

...but somehow we ended up at a 5 year old's birthday party in matching outfits.

In public.

And, in hopes of airing my dirty laundry so I'm shamed out of ever trying such a stunt again, I'm posting this up with the Anderson Crew for Embrace the Camera today. That'll teach me.

Ooooh, Red Hightop Chucks...

When Eli was born the fella's mom began a grand tradition.

She bought him a tiny pair of red hightop chucks.

Then when Amos came, he got the tiny pair, and she got Eli a bigger pair.
And now, I'm sure you're sensing the pattern, Hazel has inherited the tiny pair, Amos the medium pair and Eli has a new (shockingly large) pair of red hightop chucks.

It's such fun I wrote a song about it...like to hear it? Here it go:

Oooooh, Red Hightop Chucks,
I lace you up.
It's time to party.
It's time to party.

Sung to the tune of Red Solo Cup - an equally clever little ditty.

Peek of the Week - June 3, 2011

It's Friday. Time for a Peek!

Our Friday feature - the Peek of the Week - is all about you! I want to hear (and share with my readers) what wowed you this week. It could be a cool finished project, a work in progress, a personal accomplishment, a cute kid moment, or something that surprised you.

If we could peek into your week - what would you want to show us?

Each week I'll share my Peek of the Week to get the ball rolling, and invite you to link to your own blog posts about your Peek of the Week. I know y'all are up to cool stuff - we wanna see it!

Here's my peek:
I'm super excited (and totally shocked) about this peek.

A few weeks back I got a request from one of my besties. She wanted to take advantage of her sweet daughter's young age, and do the dorky matching this while she's too young to protest (I'm sure I'll be doing it too with lil' sis. Who are we kidding).
So she asked me to make matching skirts for them. I was super excited about such a fun project, but truth be told, I'm scared of grown-up clothes. But I knew she's such a good friend and close by (easier to have more fittings), that I could take on the challenge.
So she and I stole away to Fabric Bliss one day to pick out snazzy fabrics for the endeavor. I LOVE what she chose.
And I got to work.
And whadya know? They're freakin' awesome! I started with a pattern, but by about step two I just went off on my own. The mama's skirt is lined, adorable, and fits to a tee (seriously shocked).
I didn't even reference a pattern when making sweet pea's little skirt. This is why I love children's clothes! They're so forgiving. I just eyeballed everything and went to town cutting and sewing and it's crazy cute.

So, don't expect to see too many adult piece showing up in my shop. They're still scary to me since they need to, ya know, fit. But I'm thrilled with how these turned out and I think these lovely ladies look super cute!

Now it's your turn! Show us your peek!
Here's how it works:
1. Each Friday I'll post my peek of the week, and give you space to link us up to yours.
2. Blog about your Peek of the Week - whatever it is. Whatever happened that made you proud, laugh, smile, inspired, excited, or just plain happy - now that's worth sharing.
3. Include a link to this blog or put the Peek of the Week button (on the sidebar) in your post.
4. Link your blog post using the InLinkz button below.
5. Visit some of the other linked posts to see what folks are glowing about this week.
Leave them some comment love and expect some to be coming your way.

If you don't get a chance to get here on Friday, feel free to link your post up later.
The InLinkz button will be active for 5 days.

Embrace the Matchy Matchy

I really like the consistency of having a standard Thursday theme. So, once again it's time for Embrace the Camera, the Thursday feature from the Anderson Crew!

I did a little digging for this one, but it was worth a walk down memory lane.

Last February I took a pajama pants making class. It was great fun and there was literally no one I didn't make pajama pants for. Aren't yours super cute and comfy?

I even made fabulous matching ones for the boys and me! Swirly ones with winky owls!

Even the beloved Harry Elephante got a pair. Of course.

The fella got jealous (ok, that's a lie) so I made matching pairs for him and the boys too! Much manlier - with peace signs and dinosaurs.

How long do you think I should expect that my boys will wear matching clothes with me? You'd think that ship had sailed by now, but Dizzy still chooses his owl pjs and loves it when we wear the same ones. Now that is love.

And don't forget to come back tomorrow with your Peek of the Week! To learn what that is and how to participate, read all about it and come back tomorrow to tell us what you've been up to! I've got big news to share in my Peek tomorrow! Come back and see!

The Dorky Matching Goodness

You know what's really fortunate? That I got in to sewing while my children were young.

When you're under three...it's much easier to pull off the dorky matching goodness.
See??? Yum.

E-man's shirt has a frog with a really long time slurping up a fly. Love it.

I started working on TDMG before A-Boogie was born. Bear had to model for us.
Look at teeny Boogie!

Yeah, you really can't pull off some of these looks once you hit middle school.

The boys and I have matching crazy owl pant jammies. Even Harry Elephante (in Eli's right hand) has a pair.
And Eric and the boys got matching manly jammies for Valentines Day. Sweet right?

Who doesn't love boys in cords?

But these boat pants might just be my favorite.

Paired with white button-downs for Easter. Priceless.

There is currently no cure for TDMG. If you're lucky, by puberty you'll (I'll) grow out of it.

So for now, sorry boys.
