A New Way To Egg

Good ol' Pintrest has done it again.

Need a new way to color Easter Eggs? Pintrest has it (duh).

No vinegar. No cups.

Just shaving cream and food coloring. Genius.

Start by spraying shaving cream in a large baking dish or flat bowl. Whatever.

Shaving cream is pretty and very fun to play with. File that one away for a rainy day.

 Amos jumped the gun.

 Add food coloring.
Swirl.
Then just roll your eggs around in it. I rolled mine without mixing the color in very much. I got very dark marbled eggs. The boys mixed in there colors first and they got more pastel lightly marbled eggs. Choose your own adventure.
There's an egg hidden in there.

The aftermath.

Next step: send the kids to the tub.
Then let the eggs sit for a bit. Ten minutes or so. Then wipe them with a paper towel (or 100).
Viola! Love it!

Pro-tip. That which colors eggs, colors children. Mine required two baths and are still quite rainbow-esque. Hazel napped through the whole endeavor which turned out to be a good thing.

Easter Snuggles

Let's have a little Easter Embrace the Camera, shall we?

Yaya made Hazey the sweetest Easter outfit! It's seersucker. It's lavender. It has leggy bloomers. I mean come on.
Hazey's been a little puny lately, which means extra snuggles with Mama. I'll take it.
She's feeling better today thankfully.

Look at my wee sweeties. It's suuuuuper hard to get a decent photo of the whole brood, but this'll do just fine. I am totally smitten with this little crew. We have one huckuva good time.

Hope all had a happy Easter.

Guest Post!

Hooray! Another guest blog post from the lovely and talented Sarah from Baltimore!

Happy Easter, everyone!
Greetings from Charm City (Baltimore, Maryland) where the flowers are blooming and the trees are leafed-out early this year thanks to our unseasonably warm spring. In our neighborhood of Bolton Hill, neighbors meet up in the early afternoon on Easter in Rutter Mill Park for an egg hunt for the children, followed by a festive potluck lunch. Neighbors are asked to bring a dozen plastic eggs filled with candy or gifts and a dish to share. This year, I will be taking my husband's favorite deviled eggs, sliced ham, and these cupcakes (pictured). When shopping to fill our 10 year old's Easter basket at Target, I spotted this store-brand edible Easter grass and imagined it formed into a nest atop cupcakes. The mental image was easier to create than the actual nest was to make. I realized there's probably a world of edible products with which to create a nest (so, consult Google).  You could even use store-bought cotton candy as long as you prepare the nest cupcakes close to the hour they will be served. For the eggs, anything from jelly beans to candy-coated chocolate mini eggs, looks color/size appropriate.
In the background of this photo you will see my attempt at a home-made egg tree. If you have a playful cat (as we do) this idea might not work for your household. Future large-scale egg trees at my home will be best suited for display out-of-doors. My naked-tree-branch stuck into a pretty vase and hung with hollow decorated eggs proved too great a temptation to Boo the cat, and what you see in this photo are the eggs that remain.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday celebrated with family and friends wherever this Easter finds you-

Thanks Sarah for the fun idea! I'm gonna put a pin in it for next year!

Decoupage Easter

Last night once the kiddos were nestled all snug in their beds, I nestled myself into the recliner with a box of blown out eggs, a stack of fabric and a jug o' Modge Podge.

This project (which, yes, I found on Pintrest) was super easy. I just clipped out some fun details from the fabrics - some for each kiddo, and some for me - and went to it.
Mod Podge is magical stuff.
 Yay.

For the kiddos: dump trucks, dinos and cars for Amos; pengiuns and rockets for Eli; and owls birdies for the Hazemeister.

Even the HHS owls got in on the action. Pretty sweet. And you know what's cool? These little birds started out as solid sheets of vinyl that I made into owls, then photographed, then tweaked digitally to make into my HHS logo and now they're on an egg. Quite the progression.

And these are my faves. I especially love the birdcages. So pretty.

Happy Easter prepping!

A Whole Lotta Easter

This is a lot to cram into one post. But since today's the day, I'm throwing it all in.

Eli loved the egg decorating. You'll notice that there is no Eli egg. There was. It lasted about 15 seconds and then hit the floor.
No doubt the Easter Egg Hunt has been the highlight of toddler Easter.

Amos was a bit sensitive the whole morning, but man his pout is cute.

Eli was shockingly generous with his candy. Amos picked up nary an egg, so he spent the whole morning mooching from Eli, who kindly obliged him.
I love this one for the the comparison effect. Check these guys out from last year:
Love the mohawk.

Happy Easter All!

Peek of the Week - April 8, 2011

It's Friday. Put Your Peekin' Pants On!

Our new Friday feature - the Peek of the Week - is all about you. I want to hear (and share with my readers) what wowed you this week. It could be a cool finished project, a work in progress, a personal accomplishment, a cute kid moment, or something that surprised you.

If we could peek into your week - what would you want to show us?

Each week I'll share my Peek of the Week to get the ball rolling, and invite you to link to your own blog posts about your own Peek of the Week. I know y'all are up to cool stuff - we wanna see it!

Here's my peek:
Remember this little gem from last spring? It was featured in the first post ever of this humble blog. Dizzy and I spent three days crafting it at the first hint of the arrival of last spring.

This year I remembered that I have toddlers and that expecting them to focus on a project for three days is folly.

So instead of embarking of a whole new project, we gave this one a little sprucing.
The boys were quite up to the task.

It was the perfect post-bath, pre-bed quick and easy project. And it involved Dizzy's favorite tools - scissors and pins. Boogie liked 'em too.
My heart is glowing by how proud he is of his wreath. And he's so excited because he knows the Easter Bunny is going to love it.
I think he's right about that.

Now here's where you come in - let's see you Peeks of the Week! Inquiring minds want to know.

How it works:
1. Each Friday I'll post my peek of the week, and give you space to link us up to yours.
2. Blog about your Peek of the Week - whatever it is. Whatever happened that made you proud, laugh, smile, inspired, excited, or just plain happy - now that's worth sharing.
3. Include a link to this blog or put the Peek of the Week button (on the sidebar) in your post.
4. Link your blog post using the InLinkz button below.
5. Visit some of the other linked posts to see what folks are glowing about this week.
Leave them some comment love and expect some to be coming your way.

If you don't get a chance to get here on Friday, feel free to link your post up later.
The InLinkz button will be active for 5 days.
