Cooking with the Mouskins

A couple of days ago we continued our holiday preparations with the Mouskins. Remember them? The sweet mouse family in the book we got from the library, Christmas with the Mouskins, that has craft projects and recipes for getting ready for Christmas? It's super fun.  

We finally got around to trying out some of their recipes. 

The boys busted out their new personalized gingerbread man aprons (purchased at Joann's, embroidered by moi). 

Eli is quite the passionate baker and chef. Amos prefers other ventures. 

We whipped up some Cinnamon Snail Cookies and they were a tasty delight. What are you baking these days?

Peek of the Week - 11/11/11 Eeek!

Take a Peek at Craft Master Dizzy:

Tuesday we went to the library and Diz picked a book called "Christmas with the Mouskins." It's a delightful tale of a precious mouse family preparing for Christmas. And sprinkled throughout are craft projects and recipes so you can make preparations as the Mouskin family did.

Eli took these preparations very seriously. That boy crafted for pert near three hours, until I was begging him to put down the scissors and get into bed.

Here's a quick hint I learned from the Mouskinses - you can make lots of fun stuff by taking the idea of making paper dolls and changing the shape. I made Christmas tree table wreaths, snowman crowns the boys could decorate themselves with faces, buttons, scarves, and later hats (great idea Dizzy!), and a mitten garland, all by using the paper doll technique of folding paper strips and cutting out the shape, leaving some part of the sides intact. I'm coining a new word for this - paperdollifying.

And the next morning he was back at it, itching to get his craft on.

Now...what else can I paperdollify?

Happy 1st of July! I like July. It has the fourth. My birthday is in it. And it means I'm having this baby "next month!" Aw yeah.

I have a simple peek this week. An introduction of sorts. I'd like you to meet...

...Fidget.

Dizzy has bestowed upon sweet Baby Amos a new nickname. It's Fidget and it is perfect for him. I usually just call him a spaz because kid never stops moving. But Fidget is whimsical and silly and fun to say. And it fits him to a tee. Well done Dizzy. Well done.

And, as a bonus, The Adventures of Dizzy and Fidget? I mean come on. The children's book series practically writes itself.

Kids say the darndest things. This morning Eli called me into where he was playing because he was "caweening into a pile of stuffed animals!"

Where does he come up these things?!

Mama Needs a New Pair of Shoes...

Screw that. Mama needs the new Amy Butler purse pattern book and some fabulous new fabrics.

And, while we're at it, Mama needs that purse on the cover, made out of those fabulous new fabrics. Amos and I have been frequenting a new hot spot. Every day this week in fact. Much much more on this later, but for now suffice it to say that, that this place has all of the above things that Mama needs, 'cept shoes but I think it's only a matter of time.

Yum yumma yum.

I'm super excited. Where oh where to begin?!
Well I think I'll just begin at the beginning. I'ma start with this little peach - okay, big peach. It's the first pattern in the book. I have visited my local copyplex (library) and shrunken it to 80%, since I don't think I'll be needing to carry all three of my children in it.

Can't wait to show you my finished product! I smell a Peek of the Week!
