First and Last

Yesterday was sweet E's last day of school. (wipe two tears - one sentimental and one of panic).
My elder boy child has grown up so much this year. I guess that's no surprise, but geez, I'm shocked!

He looked like a little preppy skater boy yesterday in his new beachy shorts (compliments of me) and new shoes and shirt. I've never heard of getting a new outfit for the last day of school, but it was kinda fun. I smell a new tradition!
Oh - but even more fun was what pulled up while we were waiting to leave for school. Two bulldozers, a welder, a pipe drill, and a bunch of other stuff and about 8 men in hard hats arrived about 20 minutes before time to go.
The boys were beside themselves. Poor Eli had to leave the fun and not get too dirty, but Amos spent his entire day camped out in the front yard watching the machines and digging in the dirt.
The day was eventful and meaningful...and exhausting.

Sooooo...
Have I mentioned that in three weeks we're going to North Carolina to the beach for a week with some of our besties? 'Cause it's pretty much all we talk about around here. In fact, we've been looking forward to this trip sooooo excitedly for soooo long that I already feel like the week is going by too fast.

So this week I did some preparatory sewing for my beach babies!

First, sweet beachy shorts:

These are prime for a couple of reasons.
1)They're made from British seer sucker fabric that the fella brought me back from London.
2) For the cuffs I used that fabulous nautical tweed that the boys' Easter pants 2010 were made from which means I finally used a scrap from my (newly organized) scrap stash!
3)I got to try my hand at pattern making, well, pattern tweaking because I used the same pattern I used for Eli's apple cuff cords and boat shorts, but it doesn't come in Boogie's size. So I tweaked it. And it worked.
4) Wearing matching clothes makes Dizzy be really sweet to Boogie. He loves being "twinsies" with anybody. When he's twinsies with Amos it somehow turns them into best buds.


Next I made them new hooded poncho towels!Those are gonna come in super handy on the beautiful sandy shores of the outer banks!

Embrace Yo Mama

The boys and I had a lovely Mothers' Day. It was just us three most of the day 'cause the fella was on a church retreat. Duty calls.

A word in celebration of my own Mama who lives downstairs - I could not follow through with any of the wild hairs I get if she wasn't here and so accommodating. For instance, about an hour before departure time for my Mothers' Day plans with the boys, I decided they needed matching tie shirts for the outing. She entertained them and I made the shirts. Win win!

(aside: I'm pretty sure sewing your children matching clothes for the day and then making them pose for photos is SNL spoof material. Guilty.).
The day was beeeea-utiful. I took the boys to see Rio and then we wandered around our fave urban faux village hang out and took pictures and played in fountains (you'll be seeing those soon). Doesn't Amos look dapper in his Beatles tie? Eli's is Elvis. Classic.

Hats Off

Saturday we found more than just biscuits at the farmers market. One of the new booths this year sells the sweetest little crocheted hats. Oh my word.
Little sister got two and a little clippy to add to her accessories shelf. We're praying she has a normal human head (unlike her brothers) and will fit the yellow newborn hat for at least as long as it takes my shutter to click. Fingers crossed.

Fair Play

Since yesterday we celebrated Moms and since turnabout is fair play...
...and since the fella was out of town this weekend and since we're really glad he's back...
...today, a little Dad fun.
We are a lucky bunch around here. Somehow we scored the best big brother, the greatest little bro, and world's favorite Dad. There's a champ of a Yaya downstairs and I can tell by the kicks that little sister is no one to be trifled with. And, not to toot my own or anything, but I'm pretty sure they could do worse for a Mama.

A lucky bunch.

And don't we know it.

Beautiful Mess

Motherhood is messy. It's confounding and exhausting and it never ever ends. Thank goodness, because nothing has ever made me happier.

Mothers of every make, form, and type are magical people. God bless us every one.
