Fitting the Venue

Hi friends.
Today I have a post for you.
And to beat that, it's about something that is actually Home Sewn. And yes...happily.
How's that for fitting the venue?

I'm calling this dress the Vanessa, because my friend, yup, Vanessa, taught me how to make these using a men's button down shirt. She is also a Mama who sews and she has a lovely blog and delightful etsy shop. Check her out!

I had a sewing night at my house a few weeks ago where everyone brought their own project and we all got crafty together. It was great. Except Vanessa didn't get to work on her project because I monopolized her, holding her hostage and forcing her to teach me how to make one of these sweet little dresses she has made for her daughter.

So, Eric provided me with a shirt that was his Dad's (which made it extra special) and we went to work. It's so easy and fun to make and easy to wear! Well done Vanessa!

Then, two weeks ago I spent 8 days of lounging and crafty at the home of my bestie (it was miraculous) I whipped up two others. This one with the bee, also made from Hazel's grandpa's shirt. It makes me smile every time she wears it and I think he would've loved it.
And this sweet little green beauty was made from some super soft silky cotton that my fella brought home for me from his trip to Oxford. He bought it in a stuffy London fabric shop and I have been saving it since before Hazel was even a glimmer. It was perfect for this project and it so cute and yummy.

So, so far in 2013 I'm averaging one post a month. So, it could be a 12 post year, but things could pick up. Who's to say. Check back. Be well!

Pop Art

Remember back when you just had one kid or even two and you had the time and attention span and forward thought enough to plan elaborate craft projects for yourself and for your kiddos and how amazing you thought you were and how all the other moms secretly hated you?

Well those days are clearly gone. Now I have mom-guilt for not engaging everybody in as many projects as I used to and now when we get into a project it's on the fly and we usually have to wing it with the wrong supplies and ingredients. 

And whereas I used to come up with all creative projects myself now I can't even remember to put on my pants unless somebody on Pintrest did it first. 

All that to say, crafts in the 3 child household happen a little differently, but they're happening, 

none the less. Ok, maybe a bit the less.

Yes these were the wrong ingredients and the end result:

was cool but not amazing. But Amos love love loved the process and we all engaged in a crafty moment and that is something to celebrate.

Also something to celebrate: Hazel who has been barfing (on to me) for 24 hours is asleep and the boys are playing happily outside. The non-engaged moment is also an important part of the 3 child home. Believe it.

1st Harvest

Eric read a study as he was preparing for Sunday's sermon that said the average family spends 49 minutes together a day. 

 

Yesterday we spent that and then some harvesting pumpkins. 

We are either preparing to welcome fall like, today, or jinxing it's arrival. It's our version of groundhog day. If fall sees a pumpkin before it's ready does that mean we'll have 6 more weeks of summer? Because...no.  Too hot.

See, Yaya has created the most beautiful and fruitful pumpkin patch in the back yard and those little beauties oranged up a few days ago and are just taunting us! We picked one a week or so ago and already carved it. Too soon?

 

Amos is the only kid who would look at the camera, bless him. He was enthused as you can tell.
