Do you like her shirt? I've had it in the hopper for oh...12 years or so. It was so cute that I couldn't resist trying it out on our furry babies back before we had all these hairless children. She looks so little! Look at those spindly legs. They've more than doubled in size for sure!

 I think it looked pretty good on kitty Obadiah.

Aw, look at little shorn holiday Amos.  Yes, this week's peek is quite old. I serendipitously stumbled upon the kitty photos recently.

 Pretty darn cute.

And sweet kitty Wendell had a turn in it too. Love the furry babies.

Today's Peek: Stop. Motion.

I did a few projects this week and I decided to record the process. See?

This little project has helped with my recent desire to restructure our days. Since we got back from our N.C. trip ideas have been flying through my head. Things I want to do with the kiddos, things I want to do myself and ways I want to structure our days and weeks. And I wanted a visual way to organize all that. So, I made the new calendar and put it in grand central station - our kitchen.

But being me - I couldn't just throw a whiteboard up there. I had to make it pretty.

A few things I mustache you to do? I mean come on.
I love that I did not spend a dollar to do this project. I already had a white board and all these sheets of vinyl decal material laying around. And I love that I finished it in less than a day. Can't tarry around here. Gotta make time.

And thennnnnnnnn,
I wanted to spruce up our very very ugly door for summer. I had a spring wreath on there with a background that said, "Spring has sprung. Breathe Deep." But it's 107 degrees outside. Spring has long since sprung.

 

Fun! Fabric scraps, modpodge, and a few canvasses and viola. This one took one whole naptime and that was it - and without taking a photo between every scrap you could get it done licketysplit.

Peek of the Week - June 9, 2012

We leave for vacation tomorrow and whadya know? I found a minute to give a Peek of the Week (next week's will include the OCEAN!).

So take a peek today at a little idea I got from Pintrest and how it took over our lives for a good 60 hours or so.

So simple...just cheap-o plastic beads, some baking pans and VENTILATION! These things make a deadly smell when they melt so open up the doors and windows if you try this one.

The boys took to this project like they do most things, like literal gangbusters. Beads everywhere. But that's the beauty of this project. Chaos welcome.

We baked them at 400 for 20 minutes until they melted and when they cooled they popped right out. I tried making shaped holes by using small fondant cutters but when they cool they contract, so they cutters got stuck tight. Turns out just making a hole in the beads before you melt them works fine.

Then the children went to bed and I got down to business. 

 I spent hours separating beads and filling tins and getting loopy on the fumes.

 It was totally worth it.

I even made Amos a tiny trophy and gave it to him the first morning he didn't pull all the books off his bookshelf because that is reason to celebrate!

So this is pretty exciting. I'm gonna jump right in.

See my cute little mustachioed kiddos up there? Well you could also see them on ABCNews.com, the Stamford Advocate, TreeHugger News (really?), the Dallas News, the Daily Record, and more.

Like for example, the Shreveport Times. We've been featured in an article about the marvelous mustache called "Crafters Embrace the Mighty Mustache," written by a new friend and AP writer, Jennifer. Thanks Jennifer!

Pretty doggone exciting.

So today, I have a two-fer.

First, I have completed Hazel's birthday pinafore (4 months early, yes). We did a fabulous little photo shoot today on....
Second, check out my new sweet vintage glider!

I've been dropping not-at-all-subtle hints for a few weeks that for Mothers' Day I would love a glider in the yard for rocking and nursing and reading. I looked around for vintage ones nearby with no luck. Then the fella took over and found on craigslist this lovely 40 year old gem sitting on the front porch of a sweet little grandma in Wash Park, just a few miles down the road.

Oh, this is actually a three-fer.
Third...Hazel can stand!

I really wanted to get a nice shot of the whole pinny, so I kinda propped her up and she stayed! For like two minutes until I chickened out and sat her back down. I was totally ready to catch her before she face planted, but she just never did.

Aren't they yummy? I am one lucky Mama.

In short, I'm tired. Too much to do this week. Too little time. So, enjoy the cutest little second son around. 

You'll also notice the new blog look. I'm not a fan. But since my clever little mustache background came from a sight that was suspected of malware (upon further inspection google says they're fine), and caused a scary waning message you may have gotten when you came to visit HHS, that was reason enough to scrap it. I'll keep sprucing, but for now it'll have to do.

Once again my Peek this week is inspired by Pintrest. I found this great Sidewalk Chalk Paint idea on there and it was a giant hit at our house.

 Basically you mix a cup of corn starch and a cup of water, put that in muffin tins and add food color.

 My favorite was making designs with the food coloring, which the boys promptly mixed in.

 They mixed colors too and by the end of it things were pretty psychedelic.

This week I offer a twofer. First, an installment of Stuff Yaya Makes. The children and Yaya have a separate life I often know nothing about. I'm so happy they have the magical world of Yaya to explore. Apparently sometimes they enjoy a little show called Mike the Knight. I've never seen it, but I hear Mike does right, so I'm on board.

Take pans of baking soda, drop food-colored vinegar into them and watch the bubbly goodness happen. That's science people.

Well, you can find it in several reputable news sources, but my personal fave is this one from the Winnipeg Free Press because
a) It's Canadian! That's international baby!
b) They use a huge picture of my fabric decoupaged eggs as the header of the article

So, this week, I give you "Big Block of Cheese Post." Remember on West Wing when they would have Big Block of Cheese Day, where the White House staff would open its doors to allow anyone (read: crackpots) who wanted to be heard by the government, to be heard? I'm doing that today too, only instead of crackpots, you're being inundated by cute pictures of my kids. There are just so many and they were beginning to freak me out just sitting there waiting to be blogged.
